Review - Swarm by Dalya Moon

Swarm (The Paranormal Poke Chronicles, #2)Swarm by Dalya Moon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Published April 1st 2012

Synopsis:
'Swarm is a paranormal murder mystery.

It’s Halloween, and all Zan wants to do is see his girlfriend smile when he gives her a four-month anniversary gift. Instead, he crosses paths once more with tragedy, and is pressed to solve a murder.

Zan is no ordinary high school boy, though, and he believes he can use his magical power to find the killer. His unusual talent is the ability to discover any girl’s secrets, from the past, present, or future. The trick is he has to get the girl to put her finger in his belly button, a feat that is sometimes easy, but often not.

Even with his visions, Zan won’t find this murder easy to solve, especially when he can’t tell who, or what, is on his side. As he unravels ancient secrets, Zan will get closer to the killer, and will be forced to choose sides. If he makes the wrong choice, someone dear to him will pay the price.

SWARM is the second book in a series, The Paranormal Poke Chronicles, but may be read as a stand-alone novel.'

My Thoughts:
'Swarm' was a great follow up book to the first instalment in this series 'Poke'.

During this book Zan, the lead character with the psychic belly button powers, tends to be a bit more mature and is thrown into trying to solve a murder mystery. More supernatural themes get introduced and built upon in this book and rather than it concentrating so much on his love interest, Austin, like the first book did (which I was very grateful for), it concentrates more on the murder mystery with Zan also trying to work out how to harness his powers properly so that he can use them to help him along the way.

There seemed to be quite a lot of character development in this book which I liked because you get a good feel for each one which makes you look forward to future instalments. Each main character has their own quirks which make them all likeable individuals.

This book could possibly be read as a stand alone book, but to really appreciate each character and their beginnings I would recommend reading 'Poke' first. Also, there are certain plot aspects that might be a little confusing if you haven't read the first book prior to starting this one.

Overall, this is a great light read for YA book lovers. It's certainly not a series to read if you want anything with too much depth but if you're after a fun, easy to read story with likeable characters then I'd recommend this one.

You can see my review of the first book in this series 'Poke' here.
